Play-along warm-ups
Long tones and lip slurs written out, played with the metronome (they open in Pieces). Today's is marked.
Breathing
Slow, full breaths before you play: follow the circle, in as it grows and out as it shrinks. One count a second.
Mouthpiece buzzing
Hear the line, then buzz it on the mouthpiece alone. Your pitch is drawn over it — the mic hears a buzz too.
Sing, buzz, play
Hear a note, sing it, buzz it on the mouthpiece, then play it — Arnold Jacobs’ “song and wind”: hear the pitch in your head first, and your lips find it. Sing in any comfortable octave; the mic checks each step.
Long-tone challenge
Hold one note as long and as steadily as you can, in the shape you pick. The timer starts when it hears the note.
Tonguing
Tongue one note in time with the click; see how even your notes are. For double tonguing (T-K), it shows whether the K notes lag. Use headphones.
Lip slurs
One fingering, moving between the notes it plays (its partials) in your range — air and lips only. The mic hears which partial you hit.
Range builder
Push your highest or lowest note one step further. A note counts once you hold it for a second, in tune. Rest between tries.
A = 440 Hz (change it in ⚙ Settings). Point the mic at the bell from a metre or so away; a quiet room helps the low notes.
Intonation map
Play every note in your range, one at a time, and see which ones sit sharp or flat — and how far to move a slide to fix it.
Play the note and hold it steady.
Drone & chord tuning
A steady note to tune against. Pick which note of the chord you're playing and the tuner aims for where an ensemble tunes it — a major third about 14¢ low, a fifth 2¢ high — not the tuner's equal temperament. Use headphones while the mic listens.
Play along with a recording
Load a recording (MP3, M4A, WAV…), loop a passage and slow it down — the pitch stays the same, so you can keep playing along in tune. Recordings are kept in this browser.
